Try Transit Month is part of an ongoing initiative to educate Greenville County residents about the economic and environmental benefits of public transit and encourage citizens who don't typically use public transportation to ride Greenlink.
Try Transit Events
The events and promotions listed below are designed to make participating in Try Transit Month educational, convenient and fun!
October 3 – Mill Village Farms FoodShare Open House
2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Greenlink Transit Center (100 W McBee Avenue, Greenville SC 29601)
Drop-in during this Open House event to meet the Mill Village Farms staff and learn more about their FoodShare Greenville program.
FoodShare provides bi-weekly fresh food boxes with $25 worth of fruits and vegetables for only $5 SNAP (EBT card) or $15 cash. Each box also comes with a recipe card to help buyers use all the ingredients in the box. Boxes must be ordered through the Mill Village sales representative at the Greenlink Transit Center and paid for in advance. The Mill Village representative is available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
October 7 – Story Time with a Bus Driver
Pleasant Valley Head Start
Greenlink is partnering with Pleasant Valley Head Start to read stories to participants in their preschool program. Students will have the opportunity to sit on the bus and listen to stories from a bus driver.
October 9 – Kindness Rocks
5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Five Forks Library (104 Sunnydale Drive, Simpsonville SC 29681)
This international movement encourages people to decorate rocks with inspirational messages and leave them in random public places for people to find. Join us as we paint rocks to hide at Greenlink bus stops. The library will provide rocks, paint and drinks! You can also bring your own supplies. Registration required. Greenlink customers who spot the rocks throughout the month of October are encouraged to share pictures on Twitter and tweet @RideGreenlink to be entered into a drawing for a free 31-Day Unlimited Ride pass!
October 12 – Fall for Greenville
8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Don't want to hassle with parking during Fall for Greenville? Ride Greenlink instead! A round trip is only $4 (or less). Plan your trip using Google Transit.
OCTOBER 15 – Tool Talk with Greenville Technical College Diesel Mechanic Program
Greenville Technical College
Greenlink's Fleet Manager will meet with Diesel Mechanic program students at Greenville Technical College to discuss working as a mechanic in the transit industry. Topics will include specialized training opportunities, what a typical work day looks like, and how buses are different from other heavy duty diesel engines.

Greenville Chamber (24 Cleveland Street, Greenville SC 29601)
This committee is open to any Chamber Investor who is interested in issues related to transportation and infrastructure. The committee often hosts guest presentations on important issues such as road projects, rail, air service, public transportation and our ports.

October 25 – Fare Free Friday sponsored by Greenville Heritage Federal Credit Union
5:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Don't miss this chance to ride any of Greenlink's 12 fixed routes for free for an entire day! Routes 501-601 run from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Route 602 runs from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. This one-day promotion excludes Greenville Area Paratransit services. October 25 – Local Legends: Improv Comedy Inspired by Stories from Greenlink
9 p.m. – 10:15 p.m.
Coffee Underground (1 E Coffee Street, Greenville SC 29601)
Hear stories from the people who work behind the scenes at Greenlink and then watch and enjoy as members of Alchemy Comedy create improv comedy scenes based on the details of each story.
October 31 – APPLICATION DEADLINE for the Citizens Transit Academy
Greenlink's Citizens Transit Academy is a free, six-week program designed to offer Greenville County residents a unique opportunity to learn about public transportation and the opportunities and challenges facing Greenlink. Up to 30 people will be selected from the pool of applicants and classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Greenville City Hall (206 S. Main Street, Greenville SC 29601). The class schedule is below:
- January 7: Introductions, CTA overview and Greenlink services
- January 14: Operations and safety, Transit Center tour and Greenlink's new technology
- January 21: Finances, capital needs and maintenance facility tour
- January 28: Service change procedures, bus stops and route planning
- February 4: Transit development plan and other community efforts
- February 11: Group takeaways and graduation
