Message from the Chief

On behalf of the 154 men and women of the Greenville City Fire Department, I'd like to welcome you to our website and tell you a little bit about our department.

The Greenville City Fire Department (GCFD) is an "all hazard" department, providing services ranging from fire prevention and suppression to emergency medical services, technical rescue and hazardous materials mitigation in the city of Greenville. Additionally, through our mutual aid agreements with neighboring fire departments, we also respond to regional requests for these specialized services.

Interim Fire Chief Brian Horton

Our department consists of three divisions: Fire Suppression, Fire Prevention and Fire Services. Operating from seven stations located strategically throughout the city, we responded to over 13,000 calls for service in 2022.

Our Class 1 Insurance Services Office (ISO) designation demonstrates our dedication to excellence and assures our citizens that they are receiving the highest quality of service. Our agency is internationally accredited through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). The accreditation and continuous improvement model is designed to build on successes and improve service delivery. Currently, there are only 309 CFAI-accredited fire/rescue agencies in the world. Of these, only 117 agencies are both CFAI-accredited and have a Class 1 ISO rating.

GCFD actively promotes Fire is Everyone's Fight™, a national effort led by the U.S. Fire Administration to lower the number of home fires and home fire injuries in America, by sharing lifesaving information and equipment, and changing the way city residents think about fire and fire prevention. In 2015, we launched our Community Risk Reduction Initiative to educate citizens on the critical role they can play in helping us save lives and prevent fires.

We are dedicated to empowering residents of all ages through community outreach programs like our Citizens Fire Academy, Fire Safety House, smoke alarm blitzes and events like Sidewalk CPR. Additionally, by joining forces with community partners such as Greenville Health System, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels, we're working to help ensure the safety of some of our community's most vulnerable citizens.

Thank you for your interest in and support of the Greenville City Fire Department. I hope you find the information we've provided helpful and the site easy to navigate. In addition to visiting us online, I encourage you to subscribe to the City of Greenville's electronic communications and follow the City on social media to stay abreast of the latest GCFD news, programs and activities.
