Public Hearing Set for Monday on Draft Redistricting Map
A growing Greenville means City Council will need to adjust its electoral district boundaries.
The Council will consider a draft map of the new districts at its formal meeting, to begin at 5:30 p.m., Monday, January 9, in City Hall Council Chambers. Citizens are encouraged to register in advance to speak by contacting the City Clerk's office at 864-467-4431 by Noon on Monday. Those who cannot attend may comment online at www.greenvillesc.gov/redistricting.
The City is required by law to balance its population among voting districts. The 2020 United States Census showed a shift in population within the city limits, with the largest amount of growth in District 4.
City Council began work on the redistricting plan in 2023, releasing a draft redistricting map ahead of four scheduled public meetings held in November and December. Based on public comment and further study, Council released a revision to the map in late December.
